Keynote: Dawning of the SDV Era: AGL’s Role in Steering the Future - Mizuyama Masashige, EVP, Chief Technology Officer, Panasonic
Wednesday July 17, 2024 10:05 - 10:25 CEST
The automotive industry is undergoing a profound transformation as Software-Defined Vehicles (SDVs) become the new paradigm. Central to this evolution is the decoupling of software from hardware, enabling a "Software First" development approach. Automotive Grade Linux (AGL) has been at the forefront of this shift, championing open-source software to drive innovation and foster collaboration across the industry. In this keynote speech, we will delve into the technological advancements propelling this change and the indispensable role AGL plays in accelerating it. We will spotlight key enabling technologies incubated or refined within the AGL ecosystem, such as VirtIO and Unified HMI, demonstrating how these innovations streamline automotive development with a "Software First" methodology. Additionally, we will address the challenges the industry faces and explore how the AGL community can collaboratively overcome them.

How Did You Cook It? About Honda’s AOSP-based IVI(In-Vehicle Infotainment) System - Yuichi Kusakabe, Honda Motor Co., Ltd.
Wednesday July 17, 2024 12:30 - 13:00 CEST
This presentation is the story of Honda's first in-house software development of IVI(In-Vehicle Infotainment) software.
Why Honda promotes in-house software development - Building an in-house software development team that started with two people, All development process from scratch, There is no silver bullet that will solve many problems.
However, we were able to launch this model successfully based on Honda's DNA of Waigaya, A00, and 120% quality products. The key to this is the use of AOSP(Android Open Source Project) and some OSS.
This presentation will show how a traditional automotive OEM like Honda was able to create an in-house software development team and use OSS, including AOSP. By applying OpenChain(ISO/IEC 5230) self-certification and SPDX Lite to our development process, we solved many problems and achieved a higher starting point.
However, vehicles have difficult requirements, so we will tell you the points to minimize the customization of OSS.

A Persistent Storage API for the AGL Demo - Ludwig Schwiedrzik & Felix Mölders, d-fine
Thursday July 18, 2024 13:45 - 14:15 CEST
The AGL Demo recently shown at Embedded World 2024 combines a number of impressive features across its instrument cluster and infotainment systems, giving a hands-on demonstration of the technological maturity of the AGL software stack. However, while a variety of systems can be accessed and configured, any settings applied by the user (such as radio station and volume) are lost upon shutdown. By adding persistent storage to the demo, user profiles storing information from previous sessions can be created. We have implemented a grpc API written in Rust using tonic that enables persistent storage of key-value pairs in an embedded RocksDB database. The API is designed both to enhance the user experience of the AGL demo as well as to facilitate future development of new features that rely on persistent storage, such as vehicle diagnostics.
